The most common area of PERKLORETHYLENE use is dry cleaning. It has the ability to remove stains and dirt without causing shrinkage of clothes and fabrics during dry cleaning and without causing damage to clothes and fabrics. PERKLORETHYLENE is used as an intermediate chemical in the production of many chemical end products. These are used in the production of carpet and upholstery cleaning chemicals, water repellent chemicals, aerosols, adhesives, sealing chemicals, wood cleaning chemicals, polishes and shoe polish.

It is used as a solvent chemical in the production of industrial cleaning products containing solvents.

It is used in combination with trichloroethylene for the cleaning of high-strength grease, asphalt, resin and varnish contamination in railway stations and service stations.
